Our Atelier
OPTICA was founded in 2014 in Marrakech with a single conviction: that eyewear should be as considered as any fine garment. Every frame we make is an exercise in restraint — nothing unnecessary, nothing missing.
The Beginning
What started as a small workshop in Marrakech has grown into a brand delivering across all of Morocco. Our founders came from the worlds of architecture and industrial design, not optics — and that outside perspective changed how we think about frames.
We asked: why do most glasses look the same? Why does "luxury eyewear" so often mean conspicuous logos and heavy hardware? We set out to make something different — frames that reward close attention, that improve with time, that feel like they were made for you specifically.
The Materials
Italian Acetate
We source our acetate from Mazzucchelli in Castiglione Olona, Italy — the same supplier used by the world's finest eyewear houses. Acetate is cut and polished by hand; no two pieces are exactly alike. The colours deepen and develop character over years of wear.
Aerospace Titanium
Our titanium is the same grade used in medical implants and aircraft components. It weighs almost nothing, never corrodes, and is hypoallergenic — essential for anyone who has ever had a reaction to cheap metal frames. We use it for temples, hinges, and our most minimal silhouettes.
The Process
Each frame passes through more than 200 steps from raw material to finished product. The most critical — fitting the hinge, polishing the barrel, tensioning the temples — are done by hand. We employ craftspeople who have spent decades doing only this work.
Our quality control rejects approximately 12% of finished frames — pieces that are technically functional but fall short of our aesthetic standard. We believe you should only receive something we are proud of.
Virtual Try-On
In 2022 we launched our AI-powered Virtual Try-On — a feature we built in-house after being dissatisfied with third-party solutions. Our system uses facial mesh detection to position frames precisely on the nose bridge, giving a realistic sense of how a frame will sit on your face. It runs entirely in your browser with no data stored or transmitted.
Sustainability
We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint. Our packaging is made from recycled materials and is fully recyclable. We use water-based lacquers where possible. And because we make frames to last decades, every OPTICA purchase is inherently more sustainable than cheap alternatives that need replacing every year.
